Learning is not just a static sit behind a desk and have someone talk at you all day type of process! Do we want to encourage our students to think that this is the only way to learn? Learning should be fun. Reading about subjects that interest the student will increase their ability to read naturally! Trying to force them to read boring articles that have no interest to them will stifle the natural joy of exploring what is between the covers of an unopened book. The SAT scores in public school will continue to fall for those students if they are not empowered to learn!
How is Creativity encouraged in the Home School vs Public School?

Letting our imagination grow and learning to be creative in what we do is a major part of education. Unfortunately the public schools are stifling this very important process in the drive to improve SAT scores. A recent article I read in Salon highlights this problem. I would suggest that you take a moment and read the article.
Now, let’s look at how creativity encourages students and solidifies the concepts that they are trying to learn.Learning math can be a tear jerking experience. But when we teach it through following a budget and if we can save some money then we can buy a treat this makes math much more fun! Geometry and Algebra become more interesting when we can take the students and show them the concepts as they are being used. Construction projects are an excellent resource. Public Schools cannot or will not use these techniques to clarify the subjects.
The home school teacher can develop interesting and exciting avenues that encourage the student to reach better levels of understanding. Reading becomes exciting when we know that we are going to visit the historical site that the book was written on. Would you be more enthused about the Civil War if you were going to visit Bunker Hill? I’m sure your student would be!
